The Ghana-based modern tech-oriented hub, Kumasi Hive, has been given the Leadership in SME category (LEADERSHIP II) award at the 2019 Equals in Tech Awards. This happened at the 2019 Internet Governance Forum in Berlin, Germany.
Kumasi Hive won this award through its initiative, Bridge the Gap. The awards scheme was hosted by the Equals Global Partnership. It is a scheme that acknowledges innovative solutions that are aimed at bridging the gender gap in the digital world.
The Bridge the Gap project by Kumasi Hive is trying to close up the digital gender gap. It is doing this by providing free training in digital skills to women and girls. The areas the project is giving this training include artificial intelligence (AI), web development, Internet of Things (IoT), and robotics.
The project also offers entrepreneurship training to prepare these women for future jobs. It is as well, helping to promote female-led start-ups in Africa.
