Rumors of terrorist attack on Accra Mall are not true – Ghana Police

Social media accounts indicated that the Accra Mall had come under attack from terrorists on Sunday

However, the Ghana Police service have debunked the reports as false and assured Ghanaian there was no attack

The police are currently investigating the source of the false information.

Social media has been rife with news of a supposed terrorist attack on one of the largest shopping centers in Ghana, the Accra Mall, but these reports were debunked by the Ghana Police Service.

According to earlier reports, the Accra Mall was attacked by terrorist on Sunday, 24th September 2017.

The reports stated that the said terrorist had held some foreign persons hostage at the mall pending some demands made.

However, the Ghana Police Service has debunked the social media reports as false in a statement saying, “The Police this [Sunday] afternoon monitored information on social media that a group of terrorist had attacked the Accra mall.The police on receiving the information conducted a security checks on the mall and found the information to be false”.

The statement signed by by Director-General of the Public Affairs Unit at the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Commissioner of Police, David E. Eklu, also called on Ghanaians to desist from spreading the false information.

It cautioned persons behind such false information to desist from it “since it has serious implications for the security of the whole country”.

According to the statement, the Ghana Police are currently investigating the source of the false report “for necessary action to be taken”.
